The Trough

The construction of the trough was awarded to Juan Pedro Dóndiz, together with the fountain for the square. In 1870 it was declared to have been correctly completed. It is made of red marble, and is 1.10 metres high and 1.60 metres in diameter. It has an octagonal shape with alternate semicircular and triangular sides. The semicircles are the actual troughs.

The column

This is of Italian Carrara marble and was created by Marcos de Ordozgoiti, a sculptor from Vitoria. It is barely two metres high, with a one metre diameter base. It comprises three parts: the base, the shaft and the capital. There are four taps on the lower part, although only one still functions today.

The Statue

The creation of the statue was awarded to Agapito Sarragua in 1868. It is not known why the figure of a young woman representing Victory was chosen, for the townspeople gave it the name of Taraska. This is a very common expression in Bermeo, used to refer to a shameless, ill thought of woman.
